Hi All, I'm using LCDB2 for some land cover analysis and am trying to get my hands on any (of what appears to be limited) documentation about its boundary or classification accuracy. The metadata states "The database is released with an accuracy assessment completed for that part of the database covering Marlborough District." But then it doesn't actually state what the outcome of that assessment was. I can't seem to find this accuracy assessment on the web. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Also I'm espcially keen to hear from any users of LCDB2 who have some measure of its accuracy in your area of interest - especially if you have documented this. Thanks Derek Derek G.L. We have information held in our metadata for the accuracy of the lcdb2 for Hawkes Bay. This was supplied with the database and should be on the CD you received. I have attached our copy for you. Cheers, Fiona

Thanks Fiona, There's a useful statement about boundary accuracy in there but I'm still looking for measures of classification accuracy.
Cheers

Robert Gibb from our Palmerston North office offers the following ... " ... there was no official accuracy assessment [of LCDB2]. However the Marlborough pilot study included an accuracy assessment, which may or may not be applicable to the final dataset. "

Thanks Jerry, As per my original email... "The metadata for LCDB2 states "The database is released with an accuracy assessment completed for that part of the database covering Marlborough District." But then it doesn't actually state what the outcome of that accuracy assessment was. I can't seem to find this accuracy assessment on the web. Can anyone point me in the right direction?" Also from Seyed Miri... "The Marlborough accuracy assessment was not comprehensive as this area was the first completed region and its quality was not as good as other regions. At the end of the LCDB2 project, it was suggested that the MDC_LCDB2 map go through a quality check but there was not enough budget to do so..." The mystery deepens about this Marlborough District accuracy assessment. Still looking for a good lead to the actual results.
Cheers
Derek

Hi Derek, Assume you've seen the paper by Ecki Brockerhoff et al. in the NZ J Ecol (Re-examination of recent loss of indigenous cover in New Zealand and the relative contributions of different land uses)? If not, it has quite a bit on class accuracy of LCDB2 (and LCDB1) (in the table and also in the text), discussion of issues, and a few relevant references to other sources of information on this. Try this link for the paper: http://www.nzes.org.nz/nzje/new_issues/NZJEcol32_1_115.pdf New Zealand Journal of Ecology (2008) 32(1): 115-126
