At least year's national workshop, there was some interest in a conversation among those working on biodata systems in organisations that use SAP as their core system Suggested participants in the conversation were Mike McMurtry, Jim Lambie, Liz Garson, and someone from GWRC. If you are interested in this, please respond to the following questions. What are the user tasks and business reasons for integrating biodata systems with SAP? What does integration between biodata systems and SAP look like, when it's done? Examples would be ideal. What are the challenges involved with integrating biodata systems with SAP? Is this of sufficient interest to you to be worth a discussion at the 2010 national workshop?

Hi Dan, It was me that was interested in this topic as SAP is GW's financial system and we plan to interface SAP with our Biosecurity database. What are the user tasks and business reasons for integrating biodata systems with SAP? The main reason we want to integrate our pest plant database with SAP is for the ability to compare actual budget spend against work on the ground (eg staff time against inspections). This would improve the quality of our budget predictions (eg number of Total Control sites against average amount of staff/contractor time to control each site). This could then feed into our RPMS review CBA calculations. What does integration between biodata systems and SAP look like, when it's done? Examples would be ideal. I can't answer this question but I would suggest Jim Fretwell at EBoP could as their pest plant database currently has an interface into their financial system. What are the challenges involved with integrating biodata systems with SAP? From my initial discussions with our IT department it sounds like SAP is an unwieldy beast that does not make interfaces into other systems easy or CHEAP(!!!) to develop. Is this of sufficient interest to you to be worth a discussion at the 2010 national workshop? After my discussions with Jonathan Boow at ARC, I know that they now plan to interface Biomap into their financial system at some stage in the future. As I am still trying to get my head around what this kind of integration would look like for GW (and will be in further discussions with Jim at EBoP about how they've managed to achieve it), I would definitely put my hand up for this topic to be included at the national workshop. Hi Jim / All, This topic doesn't need to be SAP specific. A more general discussion around integrating an organisation's financial system (whatever product they use)into their biodata system may still have relevance to Horizons (and other RC's that don't use SAP).

Same goes for the ARC folks. Interested to know it’s capabilities, though! Thx, mike

Pedro, > This topic doesn't need to be SAP specific. A more general discussion > around integrating an organisation's financial system (whatever product > they use)into their biodata system may still have relevance to Horizons > (and other RC's that don't use SAP). Quite so, sir. My fault for naming this to narrowly. I have renamed this session: "Integrating Biodata Systems into Council Administration Systems" I used Administration as it is wider than Financial. Any suggestions for improving that name would be welcomed. The sessions on IRIS and on EBoP's Biodiversity Ecologies Application will have relevance to this.
