Consolidation & Discovery

Ideally only one system should exist. In practice there are many. There should at least be a catalogue of systems.

Levels

Level One: Unknown number of systems

  • Number and location of datasets is not known.
  • Data that is discoverable is fragmented, distributed and of variable quality. No way of reporting on the data. Difficult to interpret the data.

Level Two: Internal catalogue exists

Level Three: Systems use standard metadata and are listed with main external catalogues.

Level Four: Internal catalogues dynamically feed into external catalogues.

Level Five: Internal catalogues dynamically sync with external catalogues.
